Minister 'delighted' at Fringe win

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan has said he was delighted that Fishamble: The New Play Company won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the second year in a row. This award for The Wheelchair on My Face by Sonya Kelly follows Fishamble’s win last year for Silent by Pat Kinevane.

The Minister said: “It is an extraordinary achievement by Fishamble to win a Fringe First in two consecutive years, and a mark of how Irish theatre achieves top acclaim on the international stage.”

Pat Moylan, chairman of the Arts Council said: “I am delighted for Sonya Kelly who has turned a dramatic personal experience into a fine piece of dramatic writing.”

The production will now tour in Ireland including Phizzfest, Civic Theatre Tallaght, Nenagh Arts Centre, Town Hall Theatre Galway, Watergate Theatre Kilkenny, The Dock Carrick-On-Shannon, The Mill Theatre Dundrum, Solstice Arts Centre Navan, Tipperary Excel and Roscommon Arts Centre.
