The meteorlogical service has issued a severe weather warning saying heavy rain will affect all areas with a risk of spot flooding particularly in the southwest.

The warning says widespread heavy rain this evening and tonight will see accumulations of up to 5 centimetres or more in places.

The southern half of the country is most at risk with a risk of coastal flooding on south coast tonight due to strong onshore winds.
