Managements of all the lift companies in the Ballymun tower blocks dispute are coming together to provide additional technical services to relieve hardship in Ballymun from today.
IBEC, the employers' organisation, said Pickerings Lifts was already providing support for the Army engineers. With support from the other firms they hoped to improve Ballymun's lift service "to the most acceptable levels during the dispute".
Lift engineers voted overwhelmingly to reject a Labour Court recommendation on Monday. IBEC and the lift companies appealed to the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) and its members to exempt Ballymun from the dispute.
IBEC said under Labour Court recommendations "Average earnings would increase by £5,000 for each person, producing annual earnings of between £27,000 and £30,000."
