A man who claimed he became remorseful about the break up of his marriage while drunk and subsequently stole money to support his family was sentenced to three years' imprisonment by Judge Patrick Smith in Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

He also admitted producing a carving knife while attempting to hold up Gerrard's shop in Drogheda on June 12th, 1995. The third offence involved robbery of a shop in Drogheda in October, 1994. The sentences Garda James Burke told and earlier court hearing that Kevitt collected his dole money and, spent it on drink before each crime.
