The shooting was the latest in a series to take place in west Dublin. Last September Frank Nolan (48), from Ballyfermot, was shot by a gunman who approached him on the street and opened fire with a handgun before escaping on a bicycle.

Last May Dean Johnson (20) died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and head in an attack on Moorfield Avenue, Clondalkin. At least four shots were fired at Johnson, who had been sitting in the back seat of a car.
