Man's intoxication leads to adjournment

Sentencing of a Dublin man for manslaughter was adjourned yesterday after he became intoxicated during the lunchtime recess

Sentencing of a Dublin man for manslaughter was adjourned yesterday after he became intoxicated during the lunchtime recess. A psychiatric report is to be prepared on Patrick O'Connell before the next hearing in the Central Criminal Court on December 4th next.

O'Connell (35), of Ratoath Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, is awaiting sentence for the manslaughter of Mr Vincent Harford (35), of Sutton, Co Dublin, on May 27th, 1997, at Ratoath Avenue. The case was adjourned over the lunchtime period.

When the court reassembled, the defence counsel, Mr Anthony Sammon SC, said the probation service believed that his client was suffering from alcoholism, adding: "It appears his difficulty required him to indulge at lunchtime."
