The Crown Court jury in Craigavon yesterday heard that a man was shot and fatally wounded and another man wounded in Belfast allegedly by a man carrying a pump-action shotgun almost two years ago.

Mr John Joseph Purcell (18), Birtie Place, Oxford, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering Mr Thomas Doherty at the Colin Glen Travellers site, Glen Road, Belfast, on July 5th, 1996. He also pleaded not guilty to a further charge of attempting to murder Mr Edward Doherty on June 12th, 1996. The trial is expected to last six or seven days.
