A man has pleaded guilty to holding staff at gunpoint at a city hotel before stealing more than €1,700 from the hotel manager.

Unemployed father of one, David Vallot (28), Altan Apartments, Western Distributor Road, Galway, pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to robbing Frank Doherty of €1,768 at the Clayton Hotel, Briarhill, Galway, on February 13th last.

He also pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning Mr Doherty along with two other members of staff and to having an imitation handgun in his possession with intent to commit a robbery.

Aisling Wall, defending, asked for sentencing to be adjourned for the preparation of reports on her client.

Judge Raymond Groarke adjourned sentencing to December 11th.

He remanded Vallot on continuing bail.
