A man has been jailed for three years for firing shots at a house in Limerick city last year.
Kenneth Noonan (26), Hyde Villas, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, told gardaí he was “out of his head drunk” when he fired two shots from a handgun at a house with children inside.
He pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to possession of a handgun in suspicious circumstances and to the reckless discharge of a firearm on July 29th last at Lenihan Avenue, Limerick.
At his sentencing hearing yesterday, Judge Carroll Moran was told that Noonan had been involved in a dispute with one of the occupants of the house over a young woman.
John O’Sullivan SC said the shooting, which was caught on CCTV, was not connected to any of the Limerick feuds.
The court heard a bullet struck the door of the house and another hit the neighbouring house. Judge Moran said firearms posed a threat to the stability of society “not only in Limerick but everywhere”. He imposed a five-year sentence but suspended the final two years.
