A man who attacked two Garda cars with an axe and rammed two more has been jailed for two years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Thomas McDonagh drove a car with only three tyres before being caught by gardai after a 10-mile chase. McDonagh (23), of Ross field Avenue, Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, common assault, possessing a dangerous weapon, criminal damage and driving with no insurance.

Gardai tried to stop McDonagh's car last September 28th because it was not insured. He fled and went home. When Garda Peter Murtagh later called to his house, McDonagh emerged wielding an axe. McDonagh attacked his patrol car, causing about £700 in damage. When another patrol car arrived, he also attacked it causing a further £700 damage.

Two days later, McDonagh was spotted changing a tyre on his car on the Naas Road. He sped off on three tyres. A patrol car chased him until he was stopped by another Garda car.
