A married man who raped and sexually assaulted a man with cerebral palsy has been jailed for seven years by the Central Criminal Court. Mr Justice Carney suspended the final five years after hearing of a plea by the victim that his assailant not be jailed but instead be made carry out community service with handicapped people.

The 27-year-old father of one was convicted by a jury before Christmas of committing the offences on March 20th, 1997. It also found him guilty of assaulting the victim in his flat, occasioning him actual bodily harm, on the same occasion.
