A 58-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Kerry overnight.

A 58-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Kerry overnight.

The alarm was raised at about 2.20am after the blaze was spotted by neighbours at Ardraw, Beaufort. The bungalow is in a scenic farming area between Killorglin and Killarney in the foothills of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks.

The house was already fully ablaze when fire crews arrived.

It took several hours to make the scene safe.

The body of the dead man, who lived alone, was taken to Kerry General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Gardaí said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
