A Dublin man was critically ill in hospital last night after a drive-by shooting in the city in the early hours of yesterday morning. The 25-year-old victim was walking on Leix Road, Cabra, close to his home, when the attack took place.
A car pulled up alongside him on the street at about 12.30am and one of the occupants fired at the victim with what gardaí believe was a semi-automatic handgun.
The victim was wounded in a buttock and at least one bullet exited his body via his stomach. Gardaí are working on the theory the attack is related to a local feud involving young drug dealers from the Cabra area.
The suspects are a group of young local men, at least one of whom has been linked to the former Dublin drugs gang leader Martin "Marlo" Hyland.
He was shot dead by members of his own gang in Finglas last December.
The man injured in yesterday's shooting managed to make his way to the Mater hospital, where he remained last night.
Gardaí in Mountjoy Garda station are investigating the incident. They believe a car found burnt out in Finglas in the early hours of yesterday morning was the vehicle used in the attack.
