Man charged with murder of German journalist

A 39-year-old man has been charged with the murder of German tourist Ms Bettina Poeschel.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with the murder of German tourist Ms Bettina Poeschel.

Mr Michael Murphy, of Rathmullen Park, Donore Road, Drogheda, was arrested yesterday morning.

After a day of questioning at Drogheda Garda Station, he was charged with the murder of Ms Poeschel last night.

Solicitor Mr Patrick Goodwin asked the judge to consider Mr Murphy's psychiatric condition. He has been remanded to Cloverhill Prison until November 2nd.

Ms Poeschel, was last seen alive on September 25th on her way to visit Newgrange went missing while on holiday in Ireland in September.

Her badly decomposed body was found in dense undergrowth in Donore, Co Meath, on October 24th.
