A 23-year-old man is to appear in court in Co Mayo tomorrow in connection with the stabbing to death of a man in Kiltimagh earlier this week.

Frankie (Francis) Heneghan (24) of Kinturk, Ballyheane, Castlebar, was found with knife wounds in a laneway at the rear of Main Street by gardaí just after midnight on Tuesday.

He died at the scene despite efforts by gardaí to assist him.

An autopsy at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar established that Mr Henegan died from multiple stab wounds.

Gardaí believe several people were involved in the killing. Shortly before the stabbing at about 11.45pm, gardaí were called to deal with a public order incident at Main Street in which a number of young people were involved.

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident over the past few days.

A man, aged in his mid 20s who was arrested on Wednesday was released this morning.

The man charged today will appear before Castlebar District Court at 10.30am tomorrow morning.
