A 15-year-old boy and a man (38) have been charged with murder at Derry Magistrates Court today.

A 15-year-old boy and a man (38) have been charged with murder at Derry Magistrates Court today.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged along with Mr Ronald Hazlett of Glenlea Park in Limavady, Co Derry, with murdering Barney McLaughlin (51).

Mr McLaughlin, who was a neighbour of Mr Hazlett, was found in a burning shed in a disused cattle mart on Monday in Limavady.

A police officer told the court that when charged Mr Hazlett replied: "I murdered no one." He said that when the same charge was put to the teenager, he said: "Not guilty."

The two accused were detained for questioning the day after the grim discovery by firefighters called to tackle the fire.

A woman who had also been arrested has been released without charge; a third man has been released pending further inquiries.

Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear again by video link on November 6th.
