Man arrested over Waterford murder

A man is being questioned by gardai today in relation to the murder of Waterford mother-of-one Margaret Walsh ten weeks ago.

A man is being questioned by gardai today in relation to the murder of Waterford mother-of-one Margaret Walsh ten weeks ago.

The 40-year-old was arrested in the city earlier today in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death.

Ms Walsh's body was discovered at Meagher's Quay in Waterford on Sunday, October 15th, two weeks after she disappeared.

A post-mortem examination showed the 35-year-old died from severe trauma injuries to the upper body.

Ms Walsh, who was known as Meg, lived at Ballinakill Downs with her husband, bus driver, John O'Brien.

She was reported missing to gardai on October 2nd. Work colleagues at Meadowcourt Homes raised the alarm when she failed to appear for work on the Monday morning where she was a secretary.

Ms Walsh had been last seen leaving the Woodlands Hotel near her home late on Saturday, September 30th, into the early hours of October 1st, after a night out with friends.

A massive search operation was launched when the victim's silver Mitsubishi Carisma was found in the Uluru car park in Ardkeen, Waterford, three days later.

The man is currently detained at Waterford Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for 12 hours.
