Man arrested over Arklow raid

A  25-year-old man has been arrested over an attempted armed robbery in Arklow yesterday afternoon.

A man entered the post office at 2.10pm and produced what is believed to be a firearm.

The man left the post office empty-handed.

No one was injured in the incident and the man fled the scene in a blue car.

At about 8.40pm, a man was arrested close to Ashford, Co Wicklow.

He is being held at Wicklow Garda station.

Meanwhile, gardaí are continuing to investigate two separate raids yesterday.

Two men carrying a gun and a hammer held up and threatened staff in Lismore, Co Waterford, at 10am before making off with a cash bag filled with documents. believing it was money. Two people were later arrested.

In an earlier incident, two men armed with knives held up the post office in Avoca, Co Wicklow.

Gardaí said the pair threatened staff before escaping on foot with about €2,000 in cash.
