LONDON - Britain's churches are set to accuse the main political parties of ignoring the plight of the poor and the jobless in the fight to win middle-class votes, it was reported yesterday.

A report commissioned by the Council of Churches ford Britain and Ireland - a copy of which was leaked to the Observer - will attack the "evil of complacency" about the growing inequalities in the country. According to the newspaper, while the bulk of the 220-page report amounts to an attack on the Conservatives' record in office - it also criticises Labour for failing to build support for tax rises to cut joblessness.

A Church of England spokesman last night refused to comment on the contents on the leak.
