Motorists using the M50 this weekend have been warned to expect further disruption and delays due to continuing work on the upgrading of the road.

Exit and lane closures will be in force in the areas of the motorway around the Red Cow N7 interchange and the Palmerstown N4 interchange during the weekend and until 6am on Monday.

However, there will also be delays during night-time hours at these locations for the next two weeks.

The two dedicated lanes into the city at the Red Cow interchange will be reduced to one for the remainder of the weekend and until 6am on Monday, while the Palmerstown exit will close at midnight tonight and will reopen at 10am tomorrow.

The closures are to allow road surfacing and other works associated with the upgrade and motorists should expect disruption to traffic flows if travelling at night.

Motorists are asked to allow extra time for their journey, slow down and follow the temporary diversion signage in place. These works are part of the first phase of the M50 upgrade, which is due for completion in August.

Phase two, which involves additional lanes and the rebuilding of junctions on the northern and southwestern sections of the motorway, began in recent weeks and will take three years to complete.
