Lord Hunt dies peacefully at 88

London - Lord Hunt, a member of the team which first conquered Everest, has died aged 88.

John Hunt led the 1953 expedition and, although he did not reach the summit, his meticulous planning paved the way for Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. The peer died peacefully at home in Henley, Oxfordshire.
