MORE charges may be preferred by the State against a 52-year-old man already facing 256 allegations of sex offences.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Balbriggan District Court yesterday.

The charges include gross indecency, indecent assault and buggery on a number of males on dates unknown between 1971 and 1989, in Co Kilkenny and Co Dublin.

The State solicitor, Mr Daragh Daly, sought an adjournment until late September. The court heard that more statements have to be taken and more charges may be brought. The defence solicitor, Mr Dermot McNamara, consented to the adjournment.
