Limerick poultry processor to cut 150 jobs

Castlemahon Food Products is to cut 150 jobs at its Limerick operation as part of a restructuring programme.

The poultry processor, which employs 410 staff, blamed intense competition and escalating operating costs.

In a statement today, the company said its loss making position must be addressed in order to secure the business.

It said following the proposed restructuring an estimated 260 full time staff will be retained.

"As part of this, the Group will consolidate some aspects of production in its Ballymena plant," the statement said.

Castlemahon Foods managing director Pat Mulvehill said: "The proposed restructuring is essential to secure the continued operation of Castlemahon. The reorganised business will provide a solid platform for the planned future growth and development."
