A Wicklow man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a Dublin man in front of his partner and baby son

A Wicklow man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a Dublin man in front of his partner and baby son. Father of two Séamus O'Byrne (27) was shot five times in the driveway of his home at Tymon Park North, Tallaght, 3½ years ago.

Garrett O'Brien (34), of Clover Hill, Bray, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr O'Byrne on March 13th, 2009. The jury found him guilty by unanimous verdict.

Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley thanked the jury for its "extremely careful attention" over more than five weeks of the trial.

The trial heard that Mr O'Byrne had been on his way out with his partner when he was shot in the back by a hooded gunman.
