Lexus Ireland is to recall a number of luxury cars due to faulty engines.

The decision comes following an announcement from parent company, Toyota earlier today that about 270,000 cars sold worldwide have engine problems.

Lexus Ireland said this afternoon it will recall 480 vehicles in the GS and LS ranges. The models affected are the current generation LS 460, LS 600h and GS 450h.

The recall is being taken due to the possibility of abnormal engine noise or unstable idling occurring in a vehicle.

The company is to replace engine valve springs in the cars, a move which will take approximately two days to complete, depending on the particular model.

Lexus Ireland said it was currently identifying the specific customers affected and would be writing to them to arrange a suitable date to undertake the procedure.

Toyota, which has been forced to recall more than 10 million vehicles globally since September 2009, said yesterday there had been no reports of accidents linked to the faulty engines. The car manufacturer said it was investigating reports that some vehicles can suddenly stall while being driven.
