Leeds United expect Manchester United to return with an improved offer for their England striker Alan Smith, the relegated club said today.

"We discussed the situation at a board meeting (on Friday), but as yet no deal has been done," Leeds director Peter Lorimer said.

"We have offers from other clubs, but Alan has said he would like to go to Old Trafford. This is the situation as it is now and...we will look at it again next week," he said.

Leeds have already rejected offers of £3.5 million and £5.5 million from Manchester United.  The club say they have also received several rival offers, including a £7 million bid from Everton.
