As many as 60 households in Thurles have been issued with unfit water notices after elevated levels of lead was discovered in the drinking water supply.

North Tipperary Council said today it is assessing the cause of the lead occurrences. It is belived the lead comes from old lead pipes in premises and/or adjacent water pipes.

The affected areas include Kincora Terrace, Dalcassian Terrace, Kickham Street, Derheen, Moyne Terrace, and McDonagh Terrace near Mitchel Street and Cabra Terrace,Stradavoher

The council said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been notified about the lead occurrences.
