'LE Eithne' mechanic found guilty of manslaughter

An apprentice naval ship mechanic on the LE Eithne has been found guilty of the manslaughter of a crewmate two years ago.

An apprentice naval ship mechanic on the LE Eithnehas been found guilty of the manslaughter of a crewmate two years ago.

Sean Lundon (21), James Connolly Park, Tipperary Town denied the murder of Able Seaman Brian Gorey (22), Devon Close, Castletroy View, Limerick, at Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin, on April 22nd, 2001.

The trial heard that Mr Gorey was pushed off the ship after a violent row in the early hours of the morning in the ship's recreation room.

The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter after deliberating for three hours today. Lundon will be sentenced on June 27th. The offence carries a jail term of up to and including life.
