Labour leader Pat Rabbitte, Deputy Leader Liz McManus and party TD Joe Costello visited the Mater Hospital this morning to discuss bed and staff cuts.
The three met chief executive of the Mater Hospital, Mr Martin Cowley, to discuss what Mr Costello described as "the biggest crisis the hospital had ever faced".
The Mater Hospital has recently had to close 115 beds and lay off 160 of its staff due to budgetary cuts.
Mr Costello has claimed the Minister of Health, Mr Michael Martin, "is bewildered by the crisis", and accused the Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern, of "standing idly by while the main hospital in his own constituency is in crisis".
