Organisers say the event, one of Ireland’s longest-running arts festivals, will have something for everyone, with more than 100 activities planned.

Man Booker prize-nominated writer Sebastian Barry and award-winning author Francisco Goldman are among the programme’s highlights this year, with both to read from their works.

One of the centre points of the weekend will be Helios II, billed as an outdoor spectacular which will set the night sky ablaze over Kilkenny Castle on Saturday.
