A £45 million project to by pass Kildare town has been approved by the Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin, his Department announced yesterday. The existing Curragh dual carriageway is to become a motorway.

The N7 is Kildare's main shopping street, the Department pointed out. About 12,500 vehicles a day passed through Kildare town in 1993. Construction work will begin next year and should be finished by 2000.
