Gardaí in Co Kerry are looking for two men in connection with the abduction of a middle-aged woman in her car in a remote rural area on Sunday morning.
They are appealing for information on any sightings of a green Citroen Xantia car in the north Cork, west Limerick and north Kerry area which had its number plates removed.
They have also said they do not wish the woman's identity to be released.
The woman, who is in her mid-50s, was travelling from her home in the Kilcummin/ Scartaglin area of east Kerry at around 6.45am to her workplace in Killarney when she was flagged down by two men at the end of a narrow laneway.
The men were in their late 20s and dark-haired. One was 183cm (6ft) tall and strongly built, and the other 178cm (5ft 10in).
Both spoke with strong rural accents. Gardaí in Killarney said it was dark at the time. One man held a silver spanner and told the woman she would come to no harm if she followed their instructions. The men removed the number plates from the car before getting into it.
The woman was forced to drive in a circuitous route in the dark, possibly in the north Cork, north Kerry and west Limerick direction before the men got out of the car.
She was traumatised by the incident and it took some time before she managed to return home, said Garda Michelle Roche of Killarney station.
They were concentrating their search on the two men and on what they might have been up to at the time. They were investigating the possibility that they were leaving the scene of a crime.
Door-to-door inquiries were being carried out in a wide area yesterday. "We are asking people to check their sheds and outhouses," Garda Roche said.
