Karl Malden, the bulbous-nosed actor who won an Academy Award for his supporting role in A Streetcar Named Desireand also starred in On the Waterfrontand the television series The Streets of San Franciscohas died at his Californian home aged 97.
Malden excelled in character parts on stage, in Hollywood films and on television. Early in his career, he took on Broadway roles for three Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights: Maxwell Anderson, Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams. – (Bloomberg)
