A murder trial jury was discharged yesterday at the Central Criminal Court after failing to agree a verdict in the trial of a 23-year-old Dublin man.

The jury was deliberating for almost seven hours in the trial of Mr John Cleary, St Mark's Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin. Mr Cleary denied the murder, but pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Ken Foley (45), at Jamestown Court in Inchicore. Mr Foley, Inchicore, was found dead on the steps of a flat complex early on January 15th, 1999.

The jury found Mr Cleary guilty of robbing a gold signet ring and a gold watch from Mr Foley on the same date. The judge will decide today on a date for sentencing on the robbery charge.
