A jury has been sworn in to try a 31 year old father of two charged with the murder of a 20 year old woman in her home in Co Tipperary last year.

Kevin Prendergast with an address at Knockeen, Grange, Clonmel, Co Tipperary is charged with the murder of Joanne Mangan on October 16th 2007.

Mr Prendergast pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ms Mangan when he was arraigned at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork this morning.

Mr Prendergast also pleaded not guilty to assault causing serious harm to Edward Mangan on the same occasion at a house at Ballynamuddagh about six miles from Clonmel.

Mr Justice Paul Carney told potential jurors that he was only available to try the case this week and would sit early and late to ensure the case finishes this week.
