Kuala Lumpur - The judge in the trial of the ousted deputy prime minister, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday cancelled a warrant to arrest a lawyer after he apologised for the furore caused in court by a sworn statement he made.
Justice Augustine Paul issued the warrant for the arrest of Mr Manjeet Singh Dhillon for contempt of court on Monday after sentencing Mr Anwar's defence counsel, Mr Zainur Zakaria, to three months in jail on the same charge.
The application, filed by Mr Zainur on Mr Anwar's behalf on Saturday, contained a statutory declaration by Mr Manjeet and a letter to the attorney general alleging "blackmail and extortion of the highest culpability" by the prosecutors.
