A journalist was yesterday banned from driving for four years

A journalist was yesterday banned from driving for four years. Ian Bailey (40), with an address at the Priory, Lisacaha, Schull, Co Cork, pleaded guilty at Schull District Court to driving with excess alcohol on August 2nd last. Garda Billy Byrne told the court he arrested Bailey at Gubbeen, Schull, on suspicion of drunken driving on the day in question. He brought him to Schull Garda station where Bailey gave a blood sample which revealed an alcohol concentration of 220mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood - over twice the legal limit.Judge Brendan Wallace heard Bailey had a similar conviction on June 23rd, 1994. He fined him £300 for the offence and ordered him to pay £75 for the costs of the blood sample analysis. He also banned him from driving for four years and ordered his licence to be endorsed.
