It's been a good day on the employment front for Cork with over 600 jobs announced.
Quinn Insurance has opened a new €25 million facility at East Gate Business Park in Little Island, which will lead to the creation of 500 jobs over the next four years.
Recruitment has already commenced and these new job opportunities will be spread across many disciplines including insurance sales and underwriting, claims management and customer service.
Quinn Insurance currently employs almost 2,800 in Ireland with 300 new positions having been created in the past year.
Speaking at the official opening of the new centre today, Colin Morgan, chief executive of Quinn Insurance said the facility would accommodate the growth in the company's general and health insurance business in Ireland and the UK."
Elsewhere, Option Wireless said today it is to create 145 jobs with the creation of a new production centre.
The company designs and manufactures equipment to provide wireless internet access such as USB modems and routers.
The Cork plant will be responsible for customising products to meet customer specifications.
Option already employs 300 people at the Kilbarry Industrial Estate with roughly half on temporary contracts.
David Whelan, vice president of Option, said the Cork facility is a key component in the company’s global operations.
