The brilliant, New York-born baritone saxophonist, Ronnie Cuber (right), returns for a short Irish tour next week. With a CV that includes everything from big bands (Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson), hard bop (Horace Silver), post bop (Lee Konitz), latin (Eddie Palmieri), to R&B (King Curtis) and soul (Aretha Franklin), Cuber has all the bases covered. His tour revisits the guitar and Hammond organ format he cut his teeth on with George Benson and Lonnie Smith on their best-selling album, The Cookbook; this time it's with Tommy Halferty on guitar and Justin Carroll on Hammond, with Conor Guilfoyle stoking the fires from the drums for what should be a foot-tapping experience. They play Limerick on Thursday, Belfast on Friday and, this day week, in Whelan's in Dublin.
