One of two road protesters who went on hunger-strike after being jailed over protests against the Glen of the Downs dual carriageway will have an opportunity next Tuesday to undertake not to interfere with the road scheme.

When the case came before Mr Justice McCracken yesterday he adjourned the trial of the contempt issue until Tuesday and said that Michael Hammond, one of the imprisoned protesters, should have an opportunity then of giving an undertaking.

In February, 13 protesters were jailed for refusing to give undertakings not to interfere with the roadworks. Others were jailed in March, but most have been freed after giving undertakings.
