VINCENT BROWNE AWARDS:Mary Fitzgerald of The Irish Times has won the Journalist of the Year award at the Tonight with Vincent Browne Media Awards 2012.

She was given the award for her “brave, expert coverage of the Arab Spring and in particular her reportage from Syria”, said the judges. The Story of the Year award went to the Irish Mail on Sunday for its video exposure of Seán Quinn family members in Kiev.

The Sunday Times was named Newspaper of the Year ; Columnist of the Year went to Colette Browne of the Irish Examiner and Blogger of the Year to Michael Taft.

The judges were Senator Marie-Louise O’Donnell, journalist Nóirín Hegarty, media author Gavan Titley and PR consultant John McGuirk.
