The Israeli army has shot and seriously injured two Palestinian youths in a village in the northern West Bank. The boys were shot by troops in Tamoun which was occupied yesterday by the Israeli military in what was claimed as retaliation for a Palestinian attack on a nearby Jewish settlement.

The boys, who are brothers, were shot after allegedly throwing stones at Israeli forces. Yusef Sharat, 13, was in serious condition after being shot in the stomach. His brother, Nabil, 16, was hit in the legs.

Israeli infantry units backed by tanks moved into the village yesterday morning after a Hamas gunman, Ziad al-Khalili, killed a Jewish settler, her daughter and an Israeli soldier on Wednesday before being shot dead himself.

Twenty-five Palestinians were arrested overnight in Tamoun by Israeli forces, according to Israeli public radio.
