Philip Carberry looks certain to be offered a riding contract in Australia after impressing trainers and officials during the Irish National Hunt jockey’s annual tour Down Under.

Leading Australian stables are anxious to secure Carberry’s services despite him riding rank outsiders while on tour. Carberry would be based in Melbourne if he accepted a contract.

The Irish jockey’s secured their first success of the tour when Shane McGovern partnered Torvill ‘N’ Dean to a comfortable six-and-a-half length victory in the Australia vs Ireland Hurlde and Sandown, Melbourne this morning.

McGovern’s mount, the 6 to 4 favourite, was always in the front rank and kicked on for the lead before two out, coming home clear of Ross Geraghty on 10 to 1 chance It’s Go Time. Neil Mulholland finished fourth, while Carberry trailed home in sixth.

"He’s a good horse and jumped well. I had no worries. It’s just brilliant to get a win here," said McGovern of the winner.

Ireland trail their Australian counterparts 38-22 despite Ross Geraghty’s second place finish on 6 to 1 chance Okemist in the Hyland Sportswear Chase.
