A man has appeared in court in relation to the alleged smuggling of €30,000 worth of cigarettes and tobacco into Ireland.
The 40-year old was arrested at Dublin airport on Tuesday after customs officers discovered Marlboro, Gauloises, Aspen and Kent brand cigarettes along with perfumed tobacco in his baggage.
A total of 20,400 cigarettes and 57.50kg of tobacco were seized, a potential loss to the exchequer of €23,000.
The Danish passport holder had arrived in Dublin on a flight from Baghdad, a Revenue spokeswoman said.
He appeared before Judge Michael Walsh on Wednesday and was remanded in custody to appear again tomorrow, Friday, at the Criminal Courts of Justice.
Revenue said it was the thirteenth arrest at Dublin Airport this year in relation to cigarette and tobacco smuggling offences.
