Garda Representative Association announces ballot on new working time agreement

Rank-and-file gardaí are to ballot on proposed changes to their rosters.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) said its 10,500 members will vote next month on a proposed new working time agreement, which includes a 12-month trial of revised rosters.

The existing rosters came into effect in 2012.

GRA president Dermot O’Brien said: “The ballot gives an opportunity to GRA members to trial the Westmanstown roster for 12 months, with another ballot at the end of that period, before making a final decision on which roster the broader GRA membership prefer.

“The revised roster addresses most of the issues identified by the membership with the current roster.

“The working time agreement secures existing and provides further entitlements and protections for our membership.

“The proposed working time agreement, which includes the revised Westmanstown roster, has been endorsed by [the] GRA central executive committee with a recommendation to the membership that it be approved by them.”

The GRA said it was maintaining its position that its members would no longer work the extra 30 hours of free overtime that formed part of the Haddington Road Agreement on working hours.

Pay review

The GRA said a review of pay and conditions under the Haddington Road deal was currently up and running.

It said this process was looking at all aspects of the pay and conditions of An Garda Síochána.
