Gardaí urge driver to come forward after fatal hit-and-run

Gardaí have urged a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash to come forward after a man died following the incident in Co Donegal.

The body of the man in his late 40s was found at 5.10am on the Newtown Road about 1.6km from Bundoran.

Gardai said they had found parts of the car on the road where the man’s body was discovered. The location is close to Bundoran cemetery.

The man appears to have been struck by a vehicle which did not remain at the scene. The victim is believed to have been walking from Bundoran to his home in Boyannagh, Co Leitrim.

The body was removed from the scene to Sligo General Hospital. A postmortem will be carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

The road has reopened after Garda forensic collision investigators completed out an examination of the area.

Gardaí are asking anyone who travelled on the Newtown Road near Bundoran last night or in the early hours of this morning to contact them at Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 9858530.

Separately an elderly man has been left fighting for his life following a collision between his car and a tractor in the North.

The victim, aged in his 70s, remains in critical condition in hospital following the incident on the Drumlish Road in Omagh, Co Tyrone.

He was driving with an elderly woman, also in her 70s, in a blue Fiat Panda car when it and a red Massey Ferguson tractor crashed at 4.45pm on Saturday.

The woman was treated for injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening. Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
