The Republic of Ireland is the cheapest place in Europe to purchase petrol while Norway is the most expensive, a new report has indicated.
According to the report, petrol costs on average 82 cents a litre, and as a result the State has replaced Spain as offering motorists best value.
The findings come from statistics gathered by American Express Foreign Exchange.
Despite recent rises in petrol prices, the UK, at an average of 122 cents a litre, is not the most expensive country in the survey.
The dearest petrol is in Holland (125 cents a litre) and Norway (131p).
In the eight eurozone countries surveyed, four registered hefty increases in petrol costs, with Spain up by 24 cents a litre compared with the same time last year.
But the other four euro-currency countries recorded petrol price falls - with petrol in France dipping by 11 cents a litre.
