DUBAI - Iran said yesterday it was committed to protecting foreigners, as protests continued against a German court verdict accusing Iranian leaders of ordering political killings.

Iranian riot police guarded the German embassy in Tehran, where they arrested students trying to attack the compound on Monday in the first violent demonstration since last Thursday's verdict.

Bonn had said it had no reason to doubt Iranian assurances that the 530 Germans in Iran were safe.
