Irish software manufacturer Iona today said its first-quarter loss widened after it paid severance payments to workers as part of a cost-cut plan.

Iona had a net loss of $5.1 million, or 14 cents a share, compared with a deficit of $2.8 million, or 8 cents, in the year- earlier period, the Dublin-based company said today in a statement.
