Inquiry opens into Newbridge courthouse fire

Gardaí have started an inquiry into a fire that destroyed Newbridge Courthouse in Co Kildare this morning.

Gardaí have started an inquiry into a fire that destroyed Newbridge Courthouse in Co Kildare this morning.

Fire crews fought the blaze at the courthouse for about two hours after it broke out at about 6 a.m.

It has been reported that the 150-year-old building has destroyed and that the roof collapsed at about 8 a.m.

The area been sealed off and gardaí are examining the scene. Eyre Street will remain closed to traffic until at least 1 p.m.

Cases planned for Newbridge court today will be dealt with at Naas District Court.
